Grape: The wine is produced using Cortese grapes. The grape is a light in color and thin-skinned grape, native to Italy. It is grown in many areas of Italy but is known as “The Star” of Gavi where the best versions are vinted. Due to its thin skin, it is also used as a table grape.
Color: pale lemon
Aromas: floral notes, ripened fruit, lime, grassy, herbal
Flavors: red apple, lime, fresh herbs, almond, earthy, honey
Body: Light
Alcohol: 12.5%
Acid: High
Sweetness: Dry
Tannins: Low
Balance: Acid dominates at first but is complemented nicely with the fruit & herbaceous flavors
Serving Tips: 46º to 50º F, in a white wine glass, no need to decant
Aging: age up to 4 years
Food Pairings: mussels, oysters, sole, white meat like pork and poultry
Winery Notes: The Ottosoldi winery is in the Gavi subregion of the Piemonte wine region of Northwestern Italy near the borders of France and Switzerland. The land for the winery was purchased 2 generations ago for 8 pennies. You can see the 8 pennies on the label on the bottle. The winery grows only Cortese grapes.
