Grape: The wine is produced using Viura grapes (aka Macabeo & Maccabeu). The grape is a light in color and thick-skinned grape, native to France. In France, it is mostly planted in the region of Roussillon. However, it is the most planted white grape variety in the Rioja region of Spain.
Color: straw yellow to golden yellow
Aromas: honey, straw, lemon, lime
Flavors: lime, lemon, apple, pear, melon, minerals, honey.
Body: Medium +
Alcohol: 12%
Acid: Medium
Sweetness: Dry
Tannins: Low
Balance: balance is nice with citrus notes
Serving Tips: 45º to 47º F, in a white wine glass, no need to decant
Aging: ready to drink young, but can age up to 10 years
Food Pairings: shellfish, fish, grilled fish, cured meat, southeast Asian cuisine
Winery Notes: The El Coto winery is the largest wine producer in the Rioja region of Spain. The grapes used to produce this wine are from the Rioja Alta and Finca Carbonera vineyard, the vineyard at the highest altitude in DOC Rioja. Rioja Alta is one of three sub-regions of Spain’s celebrated Rioja wine region.
